"In Nollywood we don't count the walls. We learn ways to climb them."

The Nollywood Workshops will offer a series of courses that have been conceived and structured while taking into consideration the complex reality of filmmaking in Africa. We intend to use these workshops as an opportunity to build a bridge between African filmmakers and filmmakers around the world. Our intention is to support the current industry while paving the way for future collaborations.

In collaboration with filmmakers in Nollywood we have identified four main areas of training that can have a positive and immediate impact on African film production.

The Workshops

1. Sound

Increasing the quality of field sound recording, Nollywood could dramatically raise the production value of its movies. The costs and investment is considerably lower compared to other areas of production.

2. Lighting/Digital Cinematography (HD)

A great emphasis will be put on natural lighting and low cost solutions to take full advantage of the immense possibilities that the African environment and landscapes offer to Nollywood filmmakers.

3. Practical Effects

Here the term “practical effects” denotes those special effects that are produced on-set, without the aid of computer-generated imagery. Many of the staples of action movies are practical effects. Gunfire, bullet wounds, rain, wind, fire and explosions can all be produced on a movie set with low cost solutions.

4. Post-Production

Post-production is constantly evolving and its complexity is daunting for all filmmakers. Our goal is not only to provide direct training in this area but also to offer a path to Nigerian editors to stay in contact with their colleagues around the world through forums, and online communities.
